I realize for the payload to run, it would have exploit a vulnerability in some program,
Windows Media Player for example. (is there or has there been recently such a vulnerability?)
I downloaded a suspicious mp3, it was posted in an audio/video enthusiasts forum by a user,
as an example of some audio problems. It was a brand new forum member. The file was about 200k.
I clicked on it and it opened it WMP by nothing played.
I looked at it a hex editor, I would say at least 90% of it was clear text, while bottom part
either code or some gibberish
I’m running Windows 8.1 with all security updates applied, using the stock MS Defender A/V
I have submitted the file to Avira to see if they would analyze it for me.
This file may be innocent; virustotal did not find anything.
Any thoughts?
