(avast latest v5.0.396 is tested :))

Malwarebytes …30/30… ;D
Ad-Aware …26/30…
avast…22/30…
Superantispyware …9/30… ???
IOBit…3/30… :o

Hi,

These results seem to be very disappointing for Avast (the extract by Pondus is so far removed from the actual results that to say it is merely misleading would be a complete untruth).

On the one hand, even I with my limited knowledge, question the relevance of such a test, but on the other hand I would be interested in any comments from Avast and/or widely experienced Forum Members.

My regards

Hey the results aren’t that bad for avast its is satisfactory

I wonder how much better avast! would do with PUP detection enabled.

Ad-Aware 26 ? That strange.

Hi,

24 products (including Avast 5) were tested for their effectiveness in dealing with 30 rogue security programs.

The tester, MRG, described as good, a minimum protection rate of 25 out of the 30 (83 1/3%).

Avast scored only 22 (73 1/3%) which was 10% below the level regarded as good and Avast were beaten by 13 products (two of which had 100% success) and so were in the bottom half of those tested (notwithstanding two of the products Online Armor ++ and a-squared Anti-Malware seem [to me] to be unreasonably treated as separate for the purposes of this test).

This was a highly specialised and relatively unusual test so this Avast success rate of some 25% below their normal level of efficiency may not be too important. I would still be interested in expert comment from Avast and/or experienced Forum Members.

My regards

The test is done with all settings to default which most of the users select
