Malware scan and AV scan simultaneously

Just soliciting thoughts and experiences with operating an AVAST scan simultaneously with an Antimalware scan. Might this cause trouble as would simultaneous scans of two AV’s?

I always pause the standard shield whilst running another security scan. Whilst there is a possibility if conflict there could also be a huge hit in the time/duration of the combined scans.

Scanner a wants to scan file a. scanner b. (avast) intercepts the opening of file a. by scanner a. and first scans it, if clean it hands back to scanner a. so it can scan file a. So this can happen for virtually every file and effectively duplicate the scan of scanner a. and really slow the whole issue down (if you have a super fast system you might have no problem with this).

Now add to the above an avast on-demand scan which if going to be stopping and starting as the resident on-access scanner of avast intercepts the other on-demand scan of scanner a. as it tries to open/extract files for scanning.

So here you would effectively have three scans running at the same time, so I will leave it up to you to now answer your own question ‘Might this cause trouble as would simultaneous scans of two AV’s’ or if it is wise to even try given the likely increase in overall scan duration.

Which is it?
