Malware-Spyware advice

Thinking of buying a good anti malware/spyware package.
Can anyone recommend one that is very good and would work well with AVAST Professional?

Thanks

Joaquin

SuperAntispyware will do a good job.
SpywareTerminator will do it for free
Other possibilities will be SpywareDoctor or SpySweeper.
But Joaquin, why do you want another resident protection besides avast?

Well I’ve had a couple of ocassions when AVAST although it has warned me of a Trojan and gave me the option to
delete it (which I did), it subsequently failed to stop it. I’ve just had to rebuild the PC after being infected by “Malware Alert”
which just proved impossible to remove. Although I am very happy overall with Avast it seems it cannot handle some items
100% - Am I wrong on this?

Virus active or files in use can be blocked for avast actions.
In these cases, you need to run avast at boot time.

I did run Avast at boot last night appeared to find some files and I thought that would be the end of that,
however this morning when I opened the browser there it was again, changing webpages and other mayhem.
Also tried Hijackthis but couldn’t see anything amiss there either.

Is there a good package with only antispyware/malware but with no anti-virus?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Joaquin

I suggest them on step 4 of general cleaning procedure

  1. Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
  4. Use SUPERantispyware and/or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
  5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

Wow! thanks, this is going to keep me busy.

All is well now after rebuild. But will save this post for next time.

Once again many thanks.
