I’m running a Malwarebytes scan, and almost right off the bat it found these as viruses:
“C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\setup\Instup.dll” and “C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\setup\instup_ais-8c5.vpx”
Both are marked as “Trojan.Agent.UPX”.
Should I delete the files, or should I consider it a false positive and let them go. “Instup” itself sounds quite suspicious, but I’m not too sure.
I’ve never had issues with viruses on my computer, this is actually the first time in a few years that I’ve had a virus (unless you consider PUPs). Either way, any help would be appreciated.
Absolutely no deletion report them to MBAM as FPs.
The Instup. part breaks down as follows ‘Inst’ (install) 'up (update) and is responsible for installations and updates. This dll is the background dll where the Instup.exe is what you would see in the task manager. The instup_ais-8c5.vpx (the .vpx file type in avast) is a check file/validation, again to ensure that the file is good.
The files should also be digitally signed ensuring that they haven’t been changed, otherwise the signature would no longer be valid. Checking my system shows valid digital signatures.
