Hi all,
I’m using the paid version of Avast Internet Security 7.0.1456 and whenever I do manual program update check … Avast requires rebooting the computer even though no updates were downloaded or installed. I searched the forum for this issue and found some “solutions” (deleting reboot.txt from the setup folder of Avast and registry fix of NTFS 8.3 file names and “PendingFileRenameOperations”) but they don’t work for me. Attached are screenshot of the issue and setup.log file from Avast setup folder. Any ideas?
Win XP SP3
AIS 7.0.1456
Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.
You may need to reboot after the repair.
Just tried the repair option with no success. The issue still remains.
You have the latest program version and generally I don’t use the manual program update as there is a Notification option, ‘Ask.’ But being a forum regular I get to know about program updates fairly soon after release, then I would use it.
That said it shouldn’t be doing that and since the repair didn’t resolve it I would suggest a clean reinstall (ensure that you backup your settings first, avastUI, Settings, Maintenance, Settings Backup).
Download the latest AIS version of avast, 7.0.1456 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
-
- Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
