Manual Update gets .vpx files for 1 - 2 minutes then stops

Hi,

I am on Xp Sp3 (all updated ok), and running Avast free Current Version 7.0.1456
The listed version under “Update engine and virus definitions” is 120703-0 Release Date 7/3/2012 23:48PM

Avast is entered in Windows Firewall ok.

I have been trying to do a manual update.

It goes for one to two minutes successfully downloads some .vpx packages ok, then says

“Last Encountered Error: Invalid File Signature. Setup will terminate \n Total Time 2:35”

This has been happening for a couple of days now.

Did a download of vpsupd.exe successfully and ran it successfully, but Avast still says that it wants me to do a manual update.

Tried vpsupd.exe from a fresh download just before, but it says that it is already up todate, but Avast itself still wants me to do an update (!?)

Successfully uploaded a troubleshooting package zip to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

Its name is:–

20120801_0641_3194344502.zip

Any help appreciated please,

Michael
P.S…
As suggested in other Forum postings, I tried a Programme Uninstall/ Repair, this was the result…

Was there an error displayed to the screen, during the Repair, something like the package is broken, use the full manual update or words like that ?

If so (still worth a try if not), then try a Manual update of the full VPS - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 58.7 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

Note: Ignore the file name in the example images of the page that is displayed after clicking the download link, they are for the main program, not for vpsupd.exe which will be downloaded.

I also had problems with updating the virus definitions, and was successful with the link for manual download given here. Thanks

No problem, glad it helped.
