I had to pull out my old Millenium computer with Avast 4.6 on it (the last version of Avast which runs on the Me-operating system is 4.8); since I have a very slow dial-up connection, how can I install updates which I download somewhere else? This should be possible; MajorGeeks for instance offers avast-updates downloads separately from the software. Thanks, Erhard

- My problem is that my slow dial-up connection times me out when I download a file with more than 25MB which I think the avast-updates will be; I get those downloads from a friend’s computer on a USB; how can I then transfer the updates to my Me-computer? Into which avast-folder do they go? Just double-click on them? Any other installation instructions?

Just double-click the executable file. Be sure to download for the 4.8 version. By the way, I think 4.6 won’t update. 4.8 is mandatory to receive the virus database updates.

- This is what happened with my XP-computer: Something went wrong with some reg.entry and the PC did not want to start; I tried to re-install XP from the factory-disks; it worked in the past, but not this time; after all disks were loaded, it always went back to the beginning, etc. That’s why I think that I have to go with another OS like Linux.
- Do you have any suggestion? I like one with a small footprint that is intuitive and free.
- Is there any AV software which will run in the background if I have Linux? Would Avast work, or would you suggest to go without an AntiVirus program and just sometimes run one manually?
