Market Downloads *FAIL*

Hi all,

Right since avast was updated with the nice option to whitelist and blacklist (which is cool)

I now have a problem with the Market app… :frowning:

As all good firewalls block all and you then select what you want to allow is what I have gone for with the option to use the new feature of ‘Allow selected’ on the firewall.

Now most things work when you select wifi/3G e.g internet browser or K9-Mail but…
I have selected allow wifi and 3G for Market but when it comes to downloading an app it just sits there and doesnt download…is there another compenent I need to allow for the download to work? ??? ??? ???

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S2
Android: 2.3.6
Rooted: Yes
Avast: 1.0.1473

Kind regards,

Ant

UPDATE Cache and Data cleared and still no joy >:(

Plus another thing that I would recommend if there isnt one already…recommended compenents that you shouldnt block with the firewall ;D

Hi,

yes, you need to allow “Google Services Framework” group in the bottom of the firewall list so the Market can download applications.

Well, recommendations are not that simple  I suppose other users will tell you better, I would personally block everything

Well done that man…there was one other thing though that was needed too ‘Download Manager’

Now it works a dream

UPDATE

So this doesnt catch anyone else out

I’ve just noticed that the rules sets are a little different on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and my Galaxy S2…

To get the Market app working when using Avast Firewall on the Samsung Galaxy S2 the ‘Google services framework’ and ‘Download manger’ are not on the firewall list you have to go into ‘Application Management’ and select them there.
But on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 they are group at the bottom of the firewall list ;D

Hope this helps some ppl 8)

I will look at the S2, but on my LG OO they are there

Ok cool - It could well be something to do with the layout of stock roms to custom roms maybe?

I still do not see any point to block Android Market in the firewall… But if you are not sure what are you blocking, just do not block it at all. Some dependencies are strange and off course are changing with version of Market.
