MBR:\\PHYSICALDRIVE0\Partition 2 troubleshooting

I’m currently typing this on my non-infected computer.

So, I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) by USB and the moment I install avast, it pops up that this rootkit has been detected on my system. So, following instructions, I let avast do what it could (remove it, restart) but it still shows up the next time I boot up. I can still run malwarebytes (scan showed nothing) and I tried running aswMBR.exe on safemode (with admin) but it could not remove it. What should I do?

I rather not re-install everything again - I just reinstalled windows yesterday.

Please attach your logs. (AdwCleaner, MBAM, OTL and aswMBR…!!)

Is there a 10Mb partition visible ?

Here is the log:

There are two partitions shown; a 10 MB partition (shown my installation of Win 7) and my partition which I boot up with and my OS.

OK for the 10MB partition… In disc management right click it and select delete

Then re-run TDSSKiller with the same parameters and when this appears select delete :

\Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System )

Once done let me know how the computer is behaving

Only one theat shows up: The other 1 is no longer shown anymore.

EsponBidrectionalService…does it have to do with any of my Espon drivers? Cause I wasn’t sure if I should remove it.

Also, aswMBR.exe does not show the rootkit as the topic name specified anymore. Anything else?

Yes do not touch that one

Have you deleted the 10MB partition as the files may have been there

How is the computer now

There are no files on the partition. I forgot to add that I have deleted the partition then did a TDSSKiller scan. Computer feels a lot faster than before.

The only thing that puzzled me is how a partition had a rootkit…perhaps it was from a virus that infected this previous system before I inherited it. I don’t see any alerts from avast! free anti-virus as of now.

That is a possibility as the partition was not active

If all is well let me know and I will remove my tools

The computer is now functioning properly!

Thanks for your help ^^

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
