I have the McAfee firewall free with Comcast so am using it, but it won’t aknowledge Avast AV.
When I start my computer I keep getting an alert that McAfee doesn’t recognise my Avast AV, so I have to check Grant access EVERYTIME. I was wondering if someone can tell me what to add to my Trusted and Banned part of the McAfee firewall settings so that does’t happen?
ashMaiSv.exe (avast email server), ashWebSv.exe (avast Web Shield) and avast.setup for updates, this isn’t a permanent file, it only exists for the duration of the update.
I can put an IP in the Trusted and Banned programming on McAfee firewall, but I need to know exactly what to put in as a trusted site. McAfee alert always says it doesn’t recognize Avast. Sop, I have to allow, but it doesn’t have an option to always allow, except in the Trusted and Banned. HELP?
The problem is avast has several servers with different ip’s I do not know if there is a list of them though. I am not familiar with your firewall but on mine I can allow specific programmes access rights to the net, does your one not have that facility
When a program tries to access a web site through your firewall, McAfee Personal Firewall prompts you to either allow or deny this access. If you choose to deny it - whether on purpose or by mistake - then McAfee will continue to block this process every time in the future. Particularly in cases where you’re not the only person that uses a particular computer, it’s important to take configure your firewall appropriately to prevent other users from inadvertently blocking any applications that you need to permit.
To prevent this from happening - and to correct any previously-blocked programs - follow these steps:
Right-click the McAfee Security Center icon in your system tray and select Personal Firewall followed by Internet Applications.
This should bring up McAfee’s Internet Applications window that lists each application that has either been granted or denied access to the Internet.
Now, click the New Allowed Application link just below the Internet Applications list, browse to each of the following files and click Open to add them. If you have already told McAfee to permit or block a program at one point in time, a message appears indicating so. Just click OK and move on to the next process.
Now, find each of the processes that has already been blocked by McAfee in the available list. You can determine if the application has been blocked by simply referring to the status beside each program in the Permissions column.
After identifying the correct applications, click each to highlight or select it.
Next, click the Allow Full Access link in the Change Permission To... pane to change the status from Blocked to Allow Full Access.
When you’ve permitted each program, click the X in the upper right corner to close the McAfee Security Center.
