Hi,

In theory, no problem as avast is only an antivirus.
Be sure that all other McAfee tools/programs are removed.
Sometimes, McAfee won’t be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its “Uninstall Application” if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).
Ok, great, thanks for the advice.
I’ve removed the McAfee AV with their own unistall program (MCPR)
All what is left is the firewall and their SecurityCenter, but that should be no problem.
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
Excuse me that I ask here but I didn’t find the another suitable topic.
I have McAfee and I have found ashWebSv.exe in C/windows.
Somewhere i have read that it can be show that there is virus. And I have delete it from this folder.
Did I make mistake?
The ashWebSv.exe should only be in the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 depending on where you installed avast.
What would have been better would have been to have renamed it ashWebSv.old and then investigate, once deleted there really isn’t anything that can be done. I’m a great believer in deletion is never a good first option.
That way you could have checked the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner I feel virustotal is the better option as it uses the windows version of avast (more packers supported) and there are currently 32 different scanners.
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect anything then your assumption that it could be malware trying to hide using legit file names in incorrect folders.
It could have been sent to avast for analysis, unfortunately unless you kept a copy then none of the above is possible.
Thank’s for your quick answer and ifnormation. For sorrows I have deleted it from pc(also from trash) and can’t send it for analysis. But will chek the pc in VIrusTotal. Thanks again!
I have check the ashWebSv.exe wich is in C:/Program files/Alwil Software/Avast 4 and VirusTotal said me “Your file “ashWebSv.exe” is queued in position: 40. Estimated start time is between 5 and 8 minutes.” And then no virus found.Nice
I no longer use McAfee Firewall but used it for over two years. While I did have McAfee, I had absolutely no conflicts or updating issues with Avast Home. The two worked well together on my system. I did not renew McAfee (now using Comodo FW) simply because the latest version of the firewall & Security Center was such a resource hog!
No problem, welcome to the forums.
I wouldn’t thing that there would be a problem with the legit file in that location, the test would have been nice on the suspect file and location.
Not to worry now, for the future you will know what to do.
