Still, many more people surf to dangerous Web sites in the .com domain, McAfee said. The popularity of .com magnifies its impact on search and browsing; 86.6 percent of clicks to sites that set off the SiteAdvisor alarm go to .com sites, McAfee said.

I wonder if they even took into consideration that the ratio of .gov sites to .com sites might have an impact on these stats. I mean who wants to hack a site that has little traffic or ones that don’t feature much in searches. It hasn’t much to do with popularity but necessity when you visit a .gov site.

Good point.

From the article, only 5.5% of the .com sites are regarded as dangerous. Interesting number. Frankly, I would have guessed it to be higher than that, though I don’t know why. I spend too much time here, I guess.
