McAfee Security Center

Just replaced computer and it came with McAfee security center installed on a 30 day free trial . I have used Avast previously with no complaints . What would the panel members thoughts be on that programme or would I better of removing it rather than purchasing after trial . Also , any probs uninstalling McAfee. Thanks for any advice.

This will help you uninstall McAfee:

There are many ex McAfee users who are now happy avast users, so we are likely to be a bit biased in our thoughts ;D

The only thing is that the MSC probably comes with a firewall so if you do get rid of it (and that is what I would suggest) you would need a firewall. Personally I wouldn’t wait for the end of the trial I would act now.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again.

Ensure you are off-line.
Uninstall McAfee using add remove programs and it would possibly be best to also run their uninstall tool (see below) and reboot before installing avast.

Some McAfee tools, select what is appropriate.
McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.

Firewalls.

  • There are many freeware firewalls such as, Comodo, PCTools Firewall Plus, Jetico, etc. - Zone Alarm free works fine with avast and has a reasonably friendly user interface, however, the free version is becoming bloated with trial ware and is also crippled as far as outbound protection goes In the Program Control, configuration area, the slider will only goes as far as Medium protection, if you want more you have to buy the Pro version.

Many thanks to both of you for excellent advice and help .

Your welcome.

You’re welcome.

If you also heed the advice welcome back to avast ;D ;D
