McAfee site advisor?

Is it safe to run this with Avast? Just wondering until Webrep is fixed?

Personally I think it a waste of time as its database is often out of date and frequently throws up results that a site is good when it is malicious and vice versa, though it shouldn’t conflict with avast.

The webrep is fixed, the back end server system isn’t so hot right now (grey webrep icons when they are down), just don’t rely on ‘any’ reputational tool McAfee site advisor, WOT or webrep, they should be used for guidance only, not slavish abeyance.

It will take time to build the webrep database and bring in the information from the avast virus labs, etc. But it is important for people to keep using it if for no other reason but to build the database up to help it mature.

Outdated DB, plus highly questionable vendor practices regarding rating and SA-related business in general. See e.g. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=290710

+1

thanks, i will use norton safeweb then

Thanks almost missed it too ;D

Personally I wouldn’t slavishly rely on that either, though it is better than most of the other ones, but the biggest issue is one of current data.

yeah, i don’t rely on it or webrep… just a guide like you all said, guess i’ll stick
with webrep, just gray and awful lot lately

You can use WOT along with WebRep. Works with all major browsers. For other suggestions, see http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-internet-safety-check.htm
