.mcl Virus?

That is good news! :D
Hopefully that stops this happening to other people!

I would like to know how to look at the relevant log in Event Viewer, to double-check it is okay, to give me peace of mind.

You mentioned a System Restore – would it be wise to perform a system restore to a point before this incident? EDIT: It seems the latest System Restore I can do is on the 12th – a few hours after the malicious file was downloaded… the description says “Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable x64 - 12.0.30501”, which is weird, because I didn’t install a program like that then. I’m probably misinterpreting that though, it’s nothing to do with this, right? It just seems odd that I can’t restore to before “playlist.mcl” downloaded.

I guess I will never now what triggered it to download…

I will delete the original malicious file, [b]if that is okay to do now/b, as even if it is harmless I don’t like having it on my PC.

I think it was “gupdate.exe”, but I am not certain.

It doesn’t normally open a UAC window. Is that indicative of anything?

I know I’m being paranoid…

For installing software, elevated privledges may sometimes be required. If you want to be absolutly safe do a system restore to the first date before malware infection; however, things should be clean by now anyways. Also, I've sent you a private message.
