After running a full Avast scan, several medium threats were found (temp files). The suggested action was to move to chest. I clicked on “apply”. There was an error message telling me none of the files had been moved to chest as the disk was full (112). I don’t know what that means. I then selected delete and they were deleted.
How do I empty the disk? ???
My pc is custom made, with Windows XP Pro. The Avast I am using is the free version.
Hmmm… Maybe the pagefile.sys file (too big) was infected…
You can go to avast > Maintenance > Chest and check (or delete) the files there.
How much free space do you have in the disk?
Thanks for the reply. The problem, I don’t know what disk they are speaking about or where to find it. I hadn’t sent it to a disk. I sent it to the “chest” file.
As far as my pc memory space, the hard drive is 150 gigs with 117 gigs free. The external drive is 700 gigs with 608 gigs free.
I wonder if the files were too big to go into the chest. You can open the Avast GUI click on settings/virus chest.
Enter zero for no limit. You may never know since the files were deleted.
What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit? If you are a 32-bit, make sure your Avast definitions are up to date and also run an Avast boot-time scan. If any infections come up, make sure you put them in the Virus Chest and report back.
After this, please check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
· Download freehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
· Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
· After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
· Under Settings:
o General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o Scanner Settings: Check all boxes
o Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
· Once the program has loaded, select “Perform FULL Scan”, then click Scan.
· The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
· When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
· Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found. You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
· The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
· Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.
