Hi,

My RAM keeps filling up from the time I start up the computer. It starts at around 3.3gb and fills up right till 8GB and then my system starts to hang. when I restart the computer it happens all over again. Please help. Thanks

Hamza

scroll down to OTL … follow instructions and attach (not copy and paste) OTL diagnostic logs https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

I did as instructed in your post. But there was no extras.txt please find attached the OTL.txt log.

Thanks

We definitely have a problem with the forum software. Could you resave the OTL log in the ANSI format and then attach

Ok. So since there was no extra.txt the first time, I thought maybe it was because fire fox was open, so I closed firefox and ran OTL again and still no extra.txt file. So I am attaching the new OTL log here and it is in ANSI as you requested.

Thank you.

Thanks. I can see you have very little RAM left, lets see if we can cure that.

Did you have an infection during February last year ?

Download the attached fix.txt to your desktop
Run OTL and press Run Fix
A dialogue will open asking for the location of fix.txt
Locate the file you downloaded to the desktop and select it
Press Run Fix again
On completion OTL will reboot your system and display a log please attach that

No, I had an infection towards the end of February this year. That was my fault, but this time one of my family made a bad download I think.

Here is the log in ANSI. thanks

Regards,
Hamza.

Could you monitor the memory usage and let me know how it is behaving please

I checked the memory usage right after I uploaded the logs and it was fixed. Sorry I didn’t post earlier as it was late at night and I went to sleep.

Thanks a ton for your help. Can you let me know what the problem was? and also how do I make a donation to avast?

No problem, a bit more time will ensure that the problem does not re-occur. From my analysis an adware type search engine was running multiple searches, it was this that was consuming the RAM as it failed to release the search

This forum is a free help one

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Hi, here are the logs as requested. Thanks.
