Well, to cut it short, this week i noticed my PC is damn slugish while testing new Avast 7 build
so i checked memory and noticed that Avast service uses 1.5 GB and more memory all the time, same goes for reported swap usage etc.
(used Process Explorer from Microsoft’s Sysinternals)
this would be fine if the computer was no software which needs that memory
but avast refuses to release it even when other apps needs the memory
the memory usage not dropped even while the system was idle (no, not screensaver scan or similar)
i do wonder if others sees same problem (w7 x64 SP1)
disabling avast services frees the memory ofcourse …
Noticed similar thing after program upgrade from .1466 to .1474 (this is an XP SP3 32bit machine). AvastSvc.exe was constantly high, though not near the Gb range. The initial casualty of the upgrade was that Privatefirewall failed to load subsequently, and with installing Online Amour which did work, the PC was reduced to a snail’s pace, and further hampered by constant system freezes. As a consequence I uninstalled .1474 and OA less than 24 hrs later, and reinstalled .1466 and PF to get the PC back to its previous state.
