Is it possible that the new version is causing my computer to use more memory when idle? It’s up to 50% which is about two times more than last I checked which was a few weeks ago. I’ve installed no other programs that run when my pc is idle.
Anyway, if you keep your monitor on and check with Process Explorer you can check the CPU usage and/or disk read/writes.
On Windows 8, the task manager will do the same job.
You could try using resmon to investigate this, it’s most likely already present on your PC. Without re-inventing the wheel and writing up a how to myself a quick Google search brought up a decent explanation of what resmon is, what it does, and what each tab means.
You can also customize your windows system configuration utility through your msconfig… again instead of re-inventing the wheel I Googled something you could reference. From there you can google more information yourself.
Got vista not 7 and I know my way around msconfig but those are good links–easy to understand. I did a little looking around for RamMap so I’ve got somewhat of a handle on how the RAM is being used (active vs standby) and by what.
