Merged Avast and VRDB icons sometimes split

I have Avast! Home 4.7.1029 (which I think is the latest) on Windows Vista Business. With the Avast and VRDB icons set to be merged, the two icons sometimes split, it seems when VRDB is building it’s database. This can sometimes be very annoying when the two icons are rapidly combining and splitting and I am trying to click on another icon in the system tray - all the other icons keep moving to make space for the extra VRDB icon so I end up clicking the wrong one! Is this likely to be fixed any time soon?

BTW, I have VRDB set to generate the database when the computer is idle since I don’t use a screensaver so that setting would never generate the database.

Thanks,
Mark.

You can configure the icons, specially VRDB through the avast4.ini file.

ShowTaskbarIcon=0

Will suppress the icon.

Thanks! I’ll see how that goes.

If the two icons are splitting and combining, I guess you have already merged the icons, now here is why this is happening. The VRDB is generating and when it does this the icons split and the ‘i’ rotates to indicate that the VRDB is being generated.

So after short periods of no screen activity (mouse activity) the VRDB considers this idle so will start to generate, this can take a long time as it will be constantly interrupted because of your activity. This happens every 21 days as this is the VRDB cycle of generation.

I don’t have a screen-saver either and much prefer my screen to just standby, but I have the VRDB set to screen-saver, so effectively it won’t run. I do a Manual VRDB Generation (every three weeks) as part of my regular weekly system maintenance.
