To preface my problem, I should note that two days ago I became a customer of Verizon FIOS for my internet and mail service. Here is the message I have received twice from Avast (last one was last evening):
“Avast Message”
"Avast has detected a secure connection from your mail program (process msimn.exe) to the SMPT server 206.46.232.12 (Verizon.net).
This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your mail. The Mail Scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself." (END OF AVAST MESSAGE)
I have no knowledge of how to proceed with this. Can anyone be of assistance? Thanks for any help.
Thank you for responding. I wonder which email client it would be…Verizon Fios is the new one, and concentric.net is my previous one, which I’ve not yet cancelled so that I can clean up and transfer email files (plan on cancelling tomorrow). Verizon, as we know, is a giant in the industry and, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t it web based email? Would I even have access to those settings? I’m thinking of waiting until I cancel Concentric and see if the problem persists. Lots to digest for a 74 yr. old female :(. Thanks again.
Webmail comes with their own antivirus scanner, avast! does not scan incoming email or outgoing email in that case.
As the file process msimn.exe is associated with Outlook Express or similar, I would look there to change any settings to disable secure connections so that Avast! can scan as before.
As the rest of the message says, Avast! will take care of scanning if this setting is changed.
