Message No Default E-mail client

I installed Avast Home Edition on my Windows XP Home with MS Outlook.
Now at startup I always get a message that there is no default e-mail client installed…
How can I get rid of this message ?
???

Open Internet Explorer (IE) and go to:
Tools\Internet Options…\tab Programs

Look for line e-mail: and set it to: Microsoft Office Outlook

Click Ok and close IE.

I’ve done that, but the message still appears…

If your XP system is updated you will see an entry besides the Control Panel at Start Menu to configure the ‘default’ web based applications for your machine (browser, email client and some others). At least, at my XP Pro the things goes ok if you set this options correctly.

Anyway, this is the first time I’ve heard such a problem… Are you sure this is done by avast?

Yes, I’m sure.
It’s the proces “avast e-mail Scanner Service” : C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe
that is running at startup. I’m still looking to shut this thing down…

If you only uses MS Outlook as the email client, you won’t need the Internet Mail provider (used, for example, to Outlook Express, Incredimail, etc.). But this behavior is strange anyway…

Why don’t you move the entry for ashmaisv.exe from the StartUp itens (Windows Registry). Can you run MSConfig from the RUN window of the Start Menu? and disable it?

If not, you can look for some Startup application at this forum: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=1509. I suggest the Startup Delayer. 8)

Oh, I was almost forgotting… Why don’t you just disable the Internet Mail provider and make the changes permanent? ;D
