If so it might be best to do a clean reinstall as it looks like there is probably a registry key remaining behind.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
Now uninstall, reboot, run the uninstall utility, reboot install the latest version, reboot.
Try this first, check this registry entry (right after computer restart):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, if it contains “PendingFileRenameOpertaions”.
Check its contents and if there’s only “reboot.txt” from avast4\setup folder, delete PendingFileRenameOperations, don’t delete any other key.
Please note before running the anti-spyware program we want to try and capture any files detected so we can send them to avast to improve detection. You could see the files that were detected by the anti-spyware program and see if you have a copy of them.
If so Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect, copy and files found to this folder and let me know what was found. I will tell you what to do next.
