Microsoft admits windows vista was a fail.

Turn up volume.

I for one never had a problem with Vista (especially after sp-1). The last BSOD I had was on XP. Granted, Windows 7 is much faster and lighter, But most of the bad press Vista received was FUD.

+1

Well I’m jumping into Window 7 Pro very soon, I have to make sure that my current computer hardware can handle this version that I don’t have to spend more money on hardware upgrade.

@SpeedyPC: you don’t have enough RAM, the rest is okay.

@Logos how much DDR RAM do I need to run Window 7 Pro…geeeeeee this is a bloody joke Window 7 pro cannot eat more ram it can’t be that hungry not like vista.

no…okay, 2 GB is enough to run the OS itself, but you need more for additional apps. My RAM use here is about 1.5GB when the system is idle. 3 GB of present physical memory is fine.

That’s why I still love the good old XP…

Once you try Windows 7 you will realize what you are missing.

Yeah the new XP Mode in the Pro version is what I am missing I still love all my software ;D

@Logos it okay I’ve just checked my motherboard and I can buy another extra 2GB of DDR RAM comes to a total of 4GB ;D :o or though I could get 8GB if I wanted too.

4GB is quite adequate on my Windows 7 system and I have not needed XP Mode as everything I have works fine.

In order to use more than 3GB RAM you need at least Windows 7 64bit.

Right now my Windows 7 system is running with 36% RAM utilized.

I have 4Gb but as my system is 32bits, I can only use 3Gb effectively.
I use XP Mode for testing purposes

Sure not, as I often work on W7 machines and didn’t find anything I would miss on XP…!!

The thing that you will notice about 7 is that it uses much more RAM, but this is intentional as it is the fastest memory on your system. So why swap to disk and leave most of the RAM unused ? That was the rationale behind the utilisation of RAM, hence 7 is a great deal faster than a comparable XP/Vista system . With 3Gb RAM on a 64bit system it just flies. I can play a game, run Itunes, defrag the drive and keep 6 web browser windows open with no slowdown at all

I like it

Sure it’s faster, but you need a high end system.
Any XP would also run much faster on such a system…
Imo, the real rationale is pushing hardware sales.

My system is 6 years old and off the shelf ;D

that’s all wrong ::)… read Essexboy’s posts again  Seven outperforms any operating system in terms of speed or in terms of anything, period…and I dare anyone to prove me wrong, I’ve run XP during 6 years.

edit: adding that as said, on a same system with enough RAM to run Seven, Seven will be faster than XP because memory management on XP is crap >>> swapping to hdd occurs all the time ::slight_smile: This was partially solved on Vista, and again much improved on Seven (when that was solved ages ago on Linux btw). There’s still a bit of swapping, but nothing when compared to XP, that was a nightmare, with intensive apps, gaming etc…, also after the system had been running too long without rebooting… even with much RAM >>> the OS was unable to use it properly.

I’m missing quick launch & hard drive space. >:(

I have a 320 gb hard drive on my XP sp3 & 320 gb on 7 64bit.

I have a lot more files on XP than 7, but 7 consumes huge amounts of hdd space. >:(

How does Win 7 take up huge amounts of space?

This is my HD with Win 7 32 bit with all my programs, pictures, videos and music.
