Microsoft. Net framework assistant

Hi.
Last night around 11:30pm EST (maybe after a streaming update?), a warning popped up saying that Microsoft. Net framework assistant was detected as malicious…sorry, I can’t remember exactly what the warning said, I just panicked and uninstalled the framework assistant.

Today’s Windows Update installed Microsoft. Net framework assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707). Is this a stable version? I use Firefox and for now it’s disabled. Do I even need that particular extension? I never paid attention to the extensions since they never gave me any cause for concern before. Right now I’m not using any extensions and the only ‘enabled’ plug-in I’m using is Silverlight. I sometimes use Flashplayer, too but I only enable it when photo editing.

Thanks.

I can tell you that Avast Browser Cleanup detected my Microsoft NETFramework assistant extension in my FF as a low reputation addon last week and it was not even activated. I just told ABC to ignore it.

I can’t tell you if you need it or not. What it does.

Thank you, iroc9555. I was slightly alarmed that I was the only one with the Framework issue.
I set ABC to ignore.

Since I never looked at my extensions before, do you think it’s okay to ‘disable’ the NETFramework assistant (at least for now)? For all I know, mine may never have been activated either.

Mine never been activated before. You can try it off and see if it is needed or not.

Okay. Thanks, again.

You welcome

I have a similar problem. Avast tells me to disable Microsoft.NET Framework Assistant O.O.O.
I was told to post my concerns here.
I don’t seem to notice any difference with it disabled. I have to look into it further.

Can anyone explain why Avast wants me to remove Microsoft Net framework assistant? I’m using Windows XP with the Firefox browser.
