I use Outlook 2003 on many machines but have had a problem with my main workstation whereby when sending emails nothing seems to happen for a while and a ‘new’ icon pops up in the tooltray informing me that Microsoft Office Outlook is synchronizing folders.
This happened around the time I installed Avast and I have been too busy/lazy(!) to pursue it further.
It is annoying and it seems the bigger the attachment the longer the delay in sending.
Yesterday I installed Avast PFP on a friends network and all went well up until the time it came to sending emails.
Like me he is used to the mail being sent as soon as you hit the Send/Receive button.
However now he too gets the Microsoft Office Outlook is synchronizing folders icon on the tooltray and the outgoing email is delayed until it is completed.
He never saw it before I installed Avast so it looks like it is directly linked with Avast?
Most of the Google hits mention Exchange Server but we are both usning XP Pro and POP3 - no Exchange Server - for email.
To prove/disprove this theory I have just uninstalled NAV2008 on one of my laptops and will be installing Avast shortly.
Up until this time I definitely have not seen this behaviour on this laptop so if it starts after installing Avast then I will know for sure.
In the meantime has anyone else come across this problem and more importantly does anyone have a fix?
I’ll condense this into a single post reply for brevity;
Tech: PFP = Professional Family Pack (1x WHS Add-In plus 10x Avast Professional for clients)
A little delay is acceptable but depending on the size of the email or number attachments delays in excess of 1 minute are common.
Never saw this behaviour with NAV2008 - never knew the tooltray icon ‘Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 is synchronizing folders’ even existed before! :
I always run the Norton Removal Tool - in fact its been run on 15 different machines this week alone!
scythe944: It can & does run for in excess of 1 minute. Attachment sizes vary but I see this synchronizing behaviour from 1MB upwards.
alanrf: As in my OP this occurs on XP Pro,POP3 and no Exchange Server!
It could be that a Microsoft update has introduced this behaviour - when I get the chance I will pursue this further.
In the meantime has anyone else seen this problem?
There are many hits for this on Google but no satisfactory resolution it would seem…
