I have Avast installed on my Microsoft XP and the Security Center has Virus Protection as OFF. Is it possible that Microsoft does not recognize Avast as a legitimate virus protection software ?
You might want to try Techs suggestions here:
In fact, if correctly installed, Microsoft should recognize avast.
Which antivirus did you use before avast?
Thank you. I tried your suggestion but I couldn’t find the windows subdirectory wbem\repository
Thank you for your suggestion. I had McAfee installed prior to Avast. I am getting the message that Avast 4.8 is reporting that it is turned off. How can I turn it on? Do you have any idea?
It probably is on and just WSC not recognising that fact, what avast! processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw ?
From that we will be able to see if it is running, have you got the avast ’ a ’ icon in your system tray ?
Re McAfee:
McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.
