Microsoft updates fail

Hi All -
I have just installed avast! (not the beta version) free on a Win 7 laptop (Toshiba) and I am notified that there are Microsoft updates ready -
My problem is that I cannot download/install them - Do I need to “allow” these in the A/V or Shield section of the program, or is it my computer having a problem of some kind - Only concerned as there has never been any problem prior to installing avast! - Ex Avira user but YoKenny1 has finally convinced me to change -
Thanks for any advice -

I find that updates frequently fail on windows 7. I do not believe it’s an avast issue, but your post is a little thin on details.

Which updates fail to install and is there a error code reported?

Hi Mac -
The M/soft updates were normal, scheduled, updates - I have (in the last hour or so) disabled avast and I was able to install the items as per usual -
No specific errors reported, just that after 3 attempts by me the updates would not download and install - I have Never had this problem at any other time -
It seems that avast is just not suitable for this system - Therefore I must return to my previous A/V where I am always able to d/load normal M/soft updates -
Thanks for your attempt to ‘solve’ the problem -

No problem with Microsoft updates on my Windows 7 system. 8)

Hi YoKenny - I think that item was one put up at the time following the failure of the update process, as a link to solutions (by Microsoft), so I followed each step to make sure there was no other problem at this end - As you know, I have also been trouble shooting programs, and conflicts, for a few years now - Several other ideas were used but whenever avast was active I could not finish the download - The only solution I found was to disable (actually remove) avast and the d/loads came in first try ??

I think that I find the above quote must be from a, "Mac" user, or you are also having problems betweem avast and Microsoft updates -

I have never had any prior errors on the Win7 unit with 2 other A/Vs and that is the simple reason why I asked if exclusions would work -
Avira Anti-vir was installed (as I would not go without any A/V) and the problem was solved instantly -
Thanks to those who read and replied -

Well in mentioning having Avira, I would have asked how you uninstalled it, if just using the add remove programs I would have suggested trying their uninstall tool to ensure all remnants are gone.

But having gone back to Avira that is a bit of a moot point.

Well in mentioning having Avira, I would have asked how you uninstalled it,
The program also has an uninstall or if you are never sure then RaProducts from Fred deVires has a full list of uninstallers that I always use to check that I have fully removed any A/V program - Here is a link for you, RA Products Uninstallers - As it is a Win7 there is not just an Add/Remove area in Control Panel like XP, if you know your operating systems - So it was fully removed to answer your question -

Thank You for asking -

Yes there is, it’s called program’s and feature’s, why are you using ra products uninstaller’s as avira has there own special uninstall tool which is available here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/ number 4 on the list.

I have 2 win 7 system’s and neither have ever had problem’s with window’s microsoft update’s.

it's called program's and feature's,
That is why I said it is not called Add/Remove in Win7 - If you bothered to check the link I left it is the same uninstaller program - I just call it by its Full Original name - The site is run/owned by Fred de Vries and his main programmer is Thomas Hoen - The better list of decent sites are...
