:) Hi avast forum members,
Be ready on the biggest set of updates by Microsoft,
April 9, 2009 (Computerworld) Microsoft Corp. today said it will issue eight security updates on Tuesday, the most since October 2008, to patch problems in Windows, Internet Explorer (IE), DirectX, Excel, Word and the company's security software. Thank you for the update… I’ll be up late doing the updates ;D

I'll be up late doing the updates

Better to be late than not to update your system.
They are usually available around 3PM EDT = UTC Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 19:00:00
Cool, I’ll do the updates when I get home. 8)
I usually wait two weeks to update Windows. This allows enough time for any associated problems to surface on Google, and hopefully a fix or workaround from MS. And I always create a restore point in case I have to uninstall.
I do that for the Service packs, but for monthly updates I do them as soon as they are available pn the AutoUpdate.
monster patch week because this is last ‘regular’ update week for XP in normal update period
after this month XP support will cease only to ‘security’ type of updates
The monster patch is all security updates. If you postpone installing them you’re giving the bad guys more time to reverse engineer any undocumented vulnerabilities the patches fix.
There Here!
Windows Updates that is not Poltergeists.
didn’t see asking whether to install or not IE8 on this week’s updates : ???
Hi Dr. Hayden1,
I would advise waiting on installing Shiternet Explorer 8.
Tech had a bad experience installing it on an XP machine.
Perhaps wait until they have fixed the first vulnerabilities and bugs in it.
But listen to the experts on here. I’m just a newbie.
Best wishes,
Avastfan1
No need to talk trash about IE8 just because it’s made by Microsoft. It’s actually very good piece of software. Had it installed on Vista x64 and WinXP without problems.
All the todays updates were installed on XP too. No problems with any.
Avastfan1
not gonna install it in the first place
just use firefox, opera and avant browser-to me the best ie clone out there

Hi Rezjor and Dr. Hayden,
Thank you both for the replies. I was only relaying what happened to Tech with the XP machine.
Indeed, it is not my browser of choice. So I shall continue to use Firefox with the appropriate add-ons (eg. NoScript).
Keep up the great work lads and thanks again for the continuing support!

Avastfan1, I guess the Ostrich Method of protection works for you?
That is stick you head in the sand and ignore the dangers around you.
Dr. Hayden to get IE8 is just that same as going from IE6 to IE7 in that IE7 has its own download site and IE8 has its own download site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx <== IE7
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx <== IE8 country and operating system selection
You, sir, I will not even dignify with a response.
To all the other lads keep up the great work! You do a stellar job on this forum!

I feel most disappointed as there were none for Vista - I want my updates ;D
You can have some of mine, I think there were seven and big when you are on dial-up. I’m still waiting to win the lottery to see when MS will pick my number and actually download them.
