Might been infected!

Avast alerted me about a threat being found when I entered a web page from a search on Google. After this the computer went very slow and acted strange.

I could later on see that “mXuipbvE.exe.part” had been put in quaranteen as a Win32:Evo-gen [Susp].
The only thing I could confirm is that its been added on the same day as the alert (related or not?).

Any Avast AV scan finishes with a warning of not being able to scan C:/WINDOWS/winstart.bat due to it is being offliine.
The file seemingly does not exist when I look for it and worries me that it might be related to any harm, and especially if the PC is found to be infected.

Lastly I couldn’t attach any aswMBR logs because it keeps on crashing before any completion.

Not a great deal showing, let me know how the computer is after this

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

Here are the log from the fix.

After the reboot a quickscan with Avast still gave me the warning of not being able to scan C:/WINDOWS/winstart.bat

Should I run “aswmbr” again to see if it still crashes, as a complement in how the computer is?

Any Avast AV scan finishes with a warning of not being able to scan C:/WINDOWS/winstart.bat due to it is being offliine.
This is not a problem as the file is not present but there may be a marker to it on the file system I receive the same warning and am not concerned :)

Any other problems

Okey, that was comforting to hear and I’m not worried anymore.

The only thing left that still bothers me is that avast! Antirootkit still crashes during a scan and at the moment it happens when it reaches system driver for MBAMWebAccsessControl.

[i]Out of curiosity, is there any reason why this occurs that is more commonly and unrelated to any infection?[/i]

For some unknown reason AswMBR does crash on a small percentage of systems and again is nothing to worry about, how is the computer . Any problems ?

Okey! No more problems then. 8)

Could and or should I delete the files I have in quarantine from before?

Yes you can empty the quarantine

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/javara.JPG

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

Approx 24 hour run and I probably messed up… :frowning:

  1. After the fix I uninstalled Java (including the browser unplug)…
  2. Installed CryptoPrevent and Unchecky…

Following actions comprises the mess

  1. Unable to reinstall my external sound card…
  • LegacyUninstaller not found.
  • [Edit]Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. Error 997.[/Edit]
  • Initially uninstalled due to “aswmbr” crashing and to prevent any possible BSOD during this help session.
  1. Uninstalled CryptoPrevent and Unchecky…
  2. Did a system restore to “End of disinfection”…
  • A unknown error occured during systemrestore. (0xc0000022)
  1. Unable to reinstall Java…
  • MsiInstaller not found.
  • [Edit]Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. Error 997.[/Edit]

This is where I am at this moment, and thought that I better post now, before I mess up even more. :-[

OK disable Avast self protection
Then try system restore again

I still get “Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.”

Could you uninstall this MS update : KB2918614

The try again

That didn’t help.

Could you now apply this hotfix please http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3000988

Still same :-[

OK let reset the installer

Download and run this small programme http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/repair_msi_windows_installer.html

Same.

AvastVBoxSvc could this cause any of this?

No it is a windows MSI problem

Could you uninstall the sound card and then try a re-install
