I’m trying to figure out what the minimum update interval is for avast! Internet Security 6.0.1203. While trying to find out, I have it set it to a very low number (e.g. 17 minutes). Yet as I write this, it is 10:15 PM and the last update attempt was at 9:01 PM.
The minimum intervals currently are like this:
Free AV: 120 minutes ( = 2 hours)
Pro AV, IS: 15 minutes
So… Why is my installation not checking for updates, while set to 17 minutes? It’s 10:17 PM 10:40 PM 10:50 PM 11:01 PM and still, the last check was 9:01 PM.
Ah! At 11:02 PM, finally an update check! So, aIS is checking every 120 minutes, despite me having it set to 17 minutes.
Yes, I rebooted after upgrading. Yes, aIS displays itself as “avast! INTERNET SECURITY”, and my subscription status shows as active.
Hmmm…you rebooted after upgrade, but did you reboot after changing the interval? I know it doesn’t say to do that, so you should not have to, just wondering, it maybe might work.
Also, Avast! typically releases 2 updates per day, so the interval is not as important as it appears.
I’ve rebooted. I’ve also booted into Safe Mode, run the aswclear.exe utility, then cleanly installed aIS. I’ve done that twice now. Still, it doesn’t update as often as I tell it to.
I know it’s claimed to be able to check for updates as often as every 15 minutes. But can anyone confirm their installation checking for updates more frequently than, say, every 60 minutes?
Whilst there is a theoretical minimum, it is also variable, so if there is a high server load that variable might be temporarily increased.
