Minor GUI Related Glitch with Updating the Program

Here’s a minor glitch I’ve found with Avast recently. I’ve managed to reproduce it pretty simply too. Basically all that happens is if you’ve left the GUI on the maintenance tab where you do your updating and then close the program window then open the Avast window again, it’ll be stuck at the maintenance tab and it will force an update to automatically run. You can keep doing this continuously and it will keep forcing the update to run.

I could be slightly wrong though in terms of the order of how to reproduce this. What actually happened was I did a right-click on the System tray icon and selected program update. Afterwards I closed the window and upon reopening it (via system tray), it’d keep doing a program update with that maintenance screen as the main. Selecting another tab and then closing the window seems to have ‘fixed’ the issue.

Well having done a manual update check if you don’t click the OK button to acknowledge the completion and you close the UI it retains your place when you open it again. So that may be why it checks for updates again.

Personally I don’t think this is a glitch but a useful function, I frequently leave it on Real-Time shields and close it, so when I open it again, I don’t want it opening the Summary section as it would on first opening the UI.

On dial-up if I open the UI with it going to the default Summary section it tries to establish a connection (no doubt to populate the ad at the bottom of the UI), which I have to cancel and that is a pain in the rear. In avast 4.8 it never tried to connect, but checked for the presence of a connection before checking for updates (or in this case to populate the ad), I guess it isn’t that smart now.

Hmm, I believe I did click the OK button and this still happened so I’m not entirely sure if this was a useful intention or just a small mishap. Either way I do see your point, but found it a bit odd upon encounter (hence why I posted it). If this really isn’t anything too big to think about in terms of changes I wouldn’t mind if it was disregarded though as it really isn’t too bad. And yeah, I do hear ya on the reload of that ad, I guess the new UI has its little ‘moments’ too. :stuck_out_tongue:
