Hey, this a small, but annoying problem I’ve been having with the free version. Whenever it updates, it places a new shortcut to the desktop. I don’t want that shortcut on my desktop, I keep my desktop squeaky clean. How can I prevent the updates from doing this?
Too my knowledge it is not possible.
Saying that, there can be a option for it if you do a custom installation though.
I’m sure I unchecked the create desktop shortcut option in the original setup (I did not have a shortcut until Avast updated). Oh well, I suppose I’ll have to live with moving an icon to the trash every few days.
There is no new version every few days.
There is 1 about every week but only if you are using a beta version.
Whilst this isn’t a solution, but I can’t recall your problem featuring much in the forums (constantly creating an avast shortcut icon). Since you say you keep your desktop squeaky clean have you thought of unchecking the ‘Show Desktop Icons’ option.
I use RocketDock and also the Quick Launch toolbar, so I normally don’t need icons on the desktop.
So what you are experiencing I believe isn’t the norm.
Try an avast Repair > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Avast Antivirus > Change - from the next screen select Repair once complete Reboot.
There isn’t any option to hide the desktop icon.
Deleting it however removes it. It doesn’t come back till the next program update.

Now there’s progress for you NOT ;D
I hate clutter and desktop icons all over the place. -
Well according to the OP this is happening more frequently:
Oh well, I suppose I'll have to live with moving an icon to the trash every few days.
If this is happening every three days or so, it isn’t program updates and certainly not the norm. Hence my suggestion to try the avast repair.
