Is it possible to set Avast to scan as soon as the computer boots up if the scheduled scan was missed while the machine was off? I switched to Avast from AVG because AVG became incompatible with Malwarebytes, but I don’t see any sort of “scan on computer start up if scheduled scan was missed” option in Avast. This is one feature from AVG that I’ll sorely miss if it’s not available.
No there is no such setting, personally I don’t feel it is required.
With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.
I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. If for some reason my system wasn’t on, no big deal I will catch it next week.
Thanks for the very quick replies. DavidR, your comment about only doing a weekly Quick scan was an eye-opener. I guess I haven’t been giving Avast’s real-time protection the trust it deserves. My plan to do daily full scans is apparently a bit overkill, heh. I’ll set a weekly scan instead, per your suggestion. I also discovered the screen saver scan, which looks great.
