My Windows XP crashed last week and I had to reformat and C: drive and reinstall the OS again. After which when I tried downloading and installing Avast, I keep getting problem installing it. When I finally managed to installed it, I get the message problem with a missing Aswcmnos.dll file. ???
I’ve clicked on the search button and write exactly aswCmnOs.dll
By the way, seems that another software could be blocking your avast installation.
After disabling it (could be SpywareDoctor, for instance), I suggest an installation from the scratch:
Do you mean by the registry missing of the aswcmnos.dll after login???
This shown after the login…some windows pop up appear show this dll are missing.
If that happen what u jus need to do is open the registry editor search complete all the registry the equal name…
The key you found need to be deleted…do not end your search if you only get the 1st key…search again until search complete windows pop up appeared…
I’ve since managed to install and use Avast again…but seems that it says now that my registration has expired, and requires re-registration which I have done. Am waiting for the reply.
But I believe my PC has been infected with some adware, which I do not know how to get rid of. It sits on my taskbar, with a flashing “shield” logo switching between an “X” and “?”.
If right or left click on it, it pops up Internet Explorer (Which is NOT my default browser), directs to AntiVirGear.com.
Any idea how I could get rid of this??
Much obliged if you could help. Thanks.
Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
Clean your temporary files.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
Use AVG Antispyware; SUPERantispyware and/or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
The adware that attack taskbar can be elimante by finding it on the c:\windows\system32…
1st u need to terminate the application n then delete the application run at location above…
Usually the adware that are in the location above can be seen clearly is not a system or windows application in the system32…
Thus you can just delete it easily…but becarefull as if u delete windows application or driver ur windows will damage by it…
For easiest and safety, install antispyware… usually this will settle this problem…
One more important advice, don go to any website that usually attach adware on it and install program that are not well known…
