I just upgraded to AMS 5 this morning and noticed that the Avast logo that normally appears on the upper left-hand corner of my Android devices’ notification bar is no longer there. I don’t know if Avast is active unless I swipe down (where I see the “You are safe” notification").
I upgraded to AMS 5 on two different devices: 1) LG Nexus 5 phone (2013), running Android Marshmallow (v6.0.1) and 2) Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, running Android Jelly Bean (v4.2.2). Both devices used to show the Avast logo on the notification bar prior to AMS 5; neither show it after AMS 5 upgrade. And FYI, I have “Permanent notification” set to ON on both devices.
So, is the removal of the Avast logo from the notification bar done by design or by mistake?
It doesn’t bother me not having the logo in the notification bar, but it’s a “nice to have”. It provides users with a better sense of security, seeing the Avast logo up there and knowing it’s watching your back.
A few times in the past, Avast was turned off on my tablet (for whatever reason) and the only way I knew this was because the logo was not in the notification bar. I’d quickly re-launch Avast and the logo would re-appear.
Now, I have to occasionally swipe down to see if the Avast notification is there, just to make sure it’s running!
It’s very hard to do this right, as many users complain that the icon is there and they don’t want it, and the other half complains that it disappeared and they want it back. So we chose this as a compromise, we show it, but you have to swipe down for it.
Why can’t Avast give the customer/user the option to turn this option on or off. This seems to be the most logical solution to make everyone happy. I prefer to have the logo on the notification area on my phone. I’m sure your programmers can make this simple change to allow us to decide on or off.
Well we’re the programmers, so I’m sure we can do it However it’s never that simple. We don’t want to add every option every users asks us for, because the app would then have thousands of different options, each one for that one user. We just need to see some demand (like here), for some option to be added.
Definitely would like to see the return of the notification icon. It makes more sense to give the user an option to see this or not especially as it was there prior to this release.
