Missing exclusions

I’ve been trying to add some exclusions to Avast(Free) but they appear to keep disappearing. Once I have added an exclusions to the exclusions list should those exclusions reappear in the list every time I open the list? In my case they don’t, the list is always empty whenever I open it.

They should be retained.

Which Exclusions are you using, the Global ones (Avast Settings > Exclusions) or those in the various avast shield settings ?
If Global ones, when you close the window are you using the OK button at the bottom of the UI window ?

Whilst this shouldn’t be an issue in its retention when added, can you give an example of the exclusion you are adding ?

Are you running avast as a limited user ?

I’m using the Global ones through (Avast Settings > Exclusions).

I’m clicking the OK button at the bottom after each entry.

The exclusions I’m trying to add are for Malwarebytes, see link https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1123

I don’t know about the limited user, how do I tell?

The computer user account is Local Account, Administrator

As far as I’m aware the limited user wouldn’t be allowed to change settings or those settings would be restored later. If your logon has Admin privileges then you would be unlikely to be running avast as a limited user, also if you installed avast from that account.

You could try changing some other settings and see if the same thing is happening.

You could also try adding some exclusions and then use the Back up settings option Avast Settings > General - scroll down to the bottom and see if Restoring those would also restore the saved exclusions.

Failing that you could try an Avast Repair.

I created another admin account and went to Avast Exclusions and added C:\Malwarebytes*, which worked.
I then went back to the original user account and did the same and it worked.
I then added the paths for the separate Malwarebytes files into the fields, which automatically became available once the previous line was filled in, pressed OK and it didn’t work.
I then entered one of the Malwarebytes paths pressed OK and it didn’t work.
I then entered one of the Malwarebytes paths pressed Add then OK and it work.
I then entered the paths to the remainder of the files pressing Add between each entry followed by pressing OK and it worked.

It would seem that pressing the Add button is the trigger for saving the exclusion entry if making multiple entries and not just the OK button. With multiple entries the OK button just takes you back to the Home page GUI, without saving the exclusion(s)

Thanks for your help.

You’re welcome.

The Add button essentially takes you to a new entry point for another exclusion. In the past having entered my last exclusion I just hit the OK button at the bottom of the window.

The main thing is that you have a resolution.
