Hi,
I hope someone can help.
I have been getting a lot of pop-ups in IE7 with pop-up blocker on so I sent a HijackThis log to a collegue to try to fix it.
In the log she found that a couple of Avast files were missing.
O23 - Service: avast! Mail Scanner - Unknown owner - D:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe" /service (file missing)
O23 - Service: avast! Web Scanner - Unknown owner - D:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe" /service (file missing)
I have re-installed my old version and updated it but they still came up as missing so I downloaded the latest version and updated but I get the same result.
Are these files suppose to be missing or is something going wrong with my computer.
I’m running Win XP Home with SP2.
Fully updated with MS updates.
Cheers,
Peter.
There are no missing files - it’s a bug in HijackThis.
Thanks Igor,
That’s good to know, will put my mind to rest.
I’ve had Avast for a few years now and never had a problem with it.
Cheers,
Peter.
Ignore any 023 reference to missing files/processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if they were indeed missing, the Web Shield and Internet Mail wouldn’t be working.
You are right to be concerned and a physical check of the location would confirm hat they aren’t missing.
