My avast! icons are missing from my tray. In my taskbar, properties, the hide inactive icons is NOT checked. I have Windows XP. Is avast still running?

To see if Avast still running > check taskmanager
If it is not > try a repair (control panel > add/remove > Avast > change/repair)
If it is running > try RejZor’s AEC
If that failes > uninstall Avast using the uninstall util from the website, reboot and reinstall.

I have exactly the same problem, tried repair without success so I uninstalled the program from the web site utility and reinstalled it. It does not seem to have reinstated my missing icons and this time I don’t seem to be able to access the virus chest and get these messages
“Initialization of Chest files Action was completed with errors!”
“Program cannot use Chest client: (null)
—>Description: Virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed.”
Has anyone any ideas please?

I think I am going mad!!!
I again restarted my pc and this time the icons appeared AND the virus chest is there so it seems that all is well, but I have no idea why!!
Richard
Richard, booting is one of the simplest ways to correct RPC errors

SAME PROBLEM: I just bought my License for Avast, and all icons from taskbar is gone and will not come back except my volume / hardware icon. The rest of my startup icons are not there and will not come back since I installed AVAST. I had NOD32 for 2 yrs never did this, had Zonealarm Antivirus on here didn’t do this, IBOT Malware didn’t cause this but when I installed and paid for AVAST it started doing this and I did the behavior thing to and that didn’t help now how am I to get them to show back up???

For a start, try what I told several years ago in this thread.
