Missing Icons

I’m running Win 7 64 Pro, and my ‘Better Half’ runs Win 7 64 Home. Both machines run the latest version of Firefox and Avast Free.

I recently notice that I no longer have the little Check Marks next to the Web sites when I do a Google search; her screen does.

Also I just noticed she has a little Avast icon in the upper right corner in Firefox, next to the Menu icon. I’ve never had this icon.

So, I can’t figure out how to get my Checkmarks back, and how to get the icon.

Any ideas?

It looks like AOS, AOS is on mine, and the icons are showing on the website links.

Update: Just checked on a browser w/o AOS, there is no AOS icon, and no icons near the website links.

Without AOS installed, you aren’t going to see the icon:

Try the following:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Hi All,

Well, that’s embarrassing to not mention ‘which Avast’… Sorry.

Both computers are running Avast Free with all updates (and I checked).

Version 17.5.3585.203

No other programs running.

Please note that I use to always have the Check Marks, they simply went away a week or two ago.

I had to Google what “AOS” stands for, and no, I’ve never installed it but up until recently I’ve had the Check Marks.

I did a Repair and no change.

I’m not really ready to do a fresh install yet as 1) check marks are not that big a deal, though I would prefer to have them, and 2) I’ve had bad luck in the past un/reinstalling various programs and the resulting hassles that came up. So that’s the last resort.

Is there anyway it could it be a simple Settings setting?

If this is installed, then AOS should be part of your browsers protection.

Interesting. My Avast looks just like your first screenshot with the only option to Uninstall the component.

But I didn’t find anything that looks like your second screenshot. So I looked at Extensions and Plug-ins/Add-ons in my browser: up to date Firefox. Nothing found relating to Avast.

So I fired up IE, which I never use except in cases like this. No Check Marks, but IE does have the little AOS icon in the upper right hand corner. And AOS is listed in IE’s Add-on section.

Thinking out loud: is AOS a JAVA app? Firefox won’t run JAVA apps but IE will… That doesn’t make sense as my wife computer has the little icon in the upper right. I’m clueless.

The same as yours, but the 64 bit version. Also my wife’s computer has the 64 bit latest version of Firefox; I keep both computers updated very regularly (I have her Firefox set to auto-update, and mine to warn me first).

This morning she still has the checkmarks and the AOS icon in the upper right; I still don’t

PS: How do you get your attachment to be ‘inline’? Mine came up only as a clickable attachment? I don’t see a choice under Attachments.

Do a right click on any of the images and select ‘copy image address’ and you’ll see where the image is stored.
I use the Pro version of Screencast-O-Matic (https://screencast-o-matic.com/)
which includes a screen capture and share program that makes doing this very easy.

It doesn’t matter what OS you’re using. The difference is in the pro or free version of the program I mentioned.
In SnagIt you can use the following to embed your image:
Go to the link SnagIt provides for your screen capture:

Right click on the image itself and select copy image address
next enter the following:

Once that’s done and you hit the Post button, this is what you’ll see.
