Missing Tools Menu items

Recently my laptop died and I needed to reload my programs, Avast free included, on a new one. I notice in this fresh install that two items are now missing from my tool menu: Software Updater and the Grimefighter. Does this condition indicate a problem with the install, a setting that needs to be adjusted for one or both to show on the Tools menu, or have these items been made to run quietly in the background without the ability to manually check them?

Thanks in advance!

Are GrimeFighter and the Software updater ticked there?

Yes, they are both already checked. The software updater does come up when there are things that need updating. I would just prefer to be able to look at the list when I choose to.

I have to assume from the lack of response to this question that its an abnormality. I wasn’t sure of Avast changed its menu’s or if there was a known issue with Win 8.1. I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Hopefully that will provide a resolution.

Perform a clean installation of the latest version 2015.10.0.2208

Allen-apparently,this is not necessarily an “abnormality” as you called it.Because it’s happened on both my mothers laptop and mine ! Did you ever figure out what the problem was ? I found out about this when my mothers laptop Avast informed us of an update and I told it not to update (for the moment). Later I went to find the software updater and it was missing from both pc’s !! Ugh !!! What to do,what to do ?

Actually I found a workaround or perhaps the new intended method of accessing the app.

On the Overview page when you first open Avast you can change the elements listed horizontally in the center of the screen. Just select the object in the upper right corner of one of the boxes and select from the list that pops up which program you want represented.

It was a pain to find initially. Someone at Avast should make this “change” known.

I hope it helps.

This should help. It did for over 120000 others. http://youtu.be/Ox8LU6GOlok
