mix.dj malware

I downloaded an FTP program from CNET and was infected by the MIX.DJ toolbar malware. It appears to have hijacked my windows browsers, Firefox and chrome, but not apple safari. It seems to be much like the Babylon toolbar that was causing so much trouble awhile back. Is there a fix for this - how do I get rid of this irritant?

I was surprised that MIX.DJ got past AVAST.

Miles

hey and welcome to the forum.

download and run the adwclener the first program in this guide

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

did it help you? if not please continue with otl, aswmbr, malwarebytes and attach those logs here.

a malware expert will help you from there

after you run AdwCleaner…post log here
also run a quick scan with Malwarebytes, if anything is found click remove selected and post log here

then to look for any leftovers, run OTL diagnostic log… OBS this log must be attached

Did not seem to do the trick. Here is the AdwCleaner log. Going on to the other apps now.

Miles

even if it did not solve your problem it removed a big load of crap files from your browser

anyway as you say, continue with MBAM and OTL and a removal expert will remove any leftover files for you when done

Ran mbbam. Also ran OTL 3 times but it got hung up at “Scanning Firefox settings…”
each time - 4th time was the charm. However, when I opened Firefox to return to this forum the MIX.DJ
tool bar was gone. Success! Thank you all very much.

FYI, it appears this MIX.DJ toolbar is an adaptation of the Babylon toolbar in that Babylon popped up several times in the logs.

Thanks again,
Miles

you have to attach the OTL log…

OTL does not do anything, it is a diagnostic log. the fix comes after when the log has been checked…if anything is found

OK, here are the mbam log and the OTL and Extra logs.
