Modifying scan

I know this has been covered before, but I can’t find the thread, so please bear with me.

I’d like to keep an item from being scanned. Avast always finds 30 files in Spybot S&D that it says cannot be scanned. I know this is not a real problem, but I would like Avast to skip Spybot altogether so I don’t keep seeing the same 30 files on every scan. How can I set Avast to do this?

Thanx,
Ron

You need to use the Exclusion lists:

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…

For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…

You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.

I would say that is a mistake and treating a symptom rather than the disease. Excluding a complete folder could become a vulnerability.

Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).

When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.

If you choose to ignore the above you can add the folder to the exclusions lists:
