Moment of email scan

Today I have been attacked by de MyDoom (sp?) virus, which was intercepted by Avast. I clicked delete permanently, after that I got a warning that the item could not be moved to the infected items folder.

After that I clicked an item to open it, and got the warning again.

My question is, was this the same mail item? When the infected items folder does not exist, is the mail item not deleted?

I guess you’re using Outlook and instructed avast to move infected mails to a folder. Is that correct?

Does the folder exist?

Or maybe posting a screenshot of the error message would be handy…

I am indeed using Outlook, and I accidently removed the infected items folder.
But why did it ask me what to do if I instructed it to move infected items to a folder?

But anyway, when I’ll get another infected mail I will give some more information, now I just clicked away without thinking too much about it :-[

It will ask you what to do with the virus. That action is for the whole message, not the viral attachment.

If you’re using the Pro Edition, you can instruct avast to do automatic actions with mail viruses. In the Home Edition, such a thing is not supported…

OK, more information as promised.

I got a mail with the virus, it was not deleted, but the virus was removed from the email. However, there was a second mail coming in at the time I was busy with the dialog asking me what to do.
When opening this second mail, the virus warning comes up again.

So it’s not twice for the same mail, but for another mail. Apperently I do not get a warning for the second, only at opening.
(which is very fortunate !!)

Hope this helps.
