I had an email saying my avast membership has been auto renewed and 29.99 is being taken out of my account, though i haven’t been using a paid version of avast, ive been using a free one.
Anyway i checked my order history and it says

Can i cancel and get a refund on both or at least the recent one?

Looks like you did took a subscription on 14-9-2015 or you used a trial of a paid version and didn’t stopped it in time.

You can’t get a refund on the first one as it is over 30 days, the second (renewal) you should be able to get a refund.
You have to request it through the support ticket system - https://support.avast.com/support/tickets/new?form=2.
If you can’t get Avast to make it right, take them to court. 
They fear legal action.
No they don’t because avast handles fully within the national and international laws.
If someone is entitled for a refund, (s)he will get it.
You sound like an Atty trying solicit a client.
Advice to the client, don’t hire this Atty.
