I worked on ‘proper’ computers (ones the engineers got inside to fix !) for over 15 years.
In my time I have worked as an application programmer, a systems programmer for IBM systems (MVS &VM).
Plus a bit of UNIX (Amdahl’s UTS) and communications software (TCP/IP). That included tracing and capturing
network traffic much of which rather surprising travelled as clear text.
I don’t use internet backing or shopping (or indeed cash machines or credit cards ).
Inconvenient as it is I go to the bank to get and pay by cash/cheque and just hope the banks IT security is robust.
Progress ‘Bah humbug’.
Although I expect (hope) things are improving.
