I have reviewed the other forum topics relating to use with Spamihilator and tried to make use of the suggestions. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to work for me.
I am using Windows 98SE, OE 6 and Avast! 4 home. I am using Spamihilator 0.9.9.9.
Everything seems to work well except the Internet Mail 4.6-763. It works without Spami and Spami works without the Mail part of Avast!. They do not work together.
I tried changing my OE accounts to:
POP3: localhost
SMTP: localhost
account name: localhost&yourUsername#yourPOP3Server&110
In avast4.ini:
DefaultSmtpServer=127.0.0.1:25
DefaultPopServer=127.0.0.1:110
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:25
PopListen=127.0.0.1:110
ImapListen=127.0.0.1:143
Turned on the Avast! Internet Mail option to normal
I could not receive or send mail.
What am I missing or have I done something wrong? Any help is appreciated since I really want to use Avast! but also like Samihilator and definately need a spam filer.
I do not use nor have never used Spaminililator but I am sure they are those here who are familiar with it. Hopefully, one of the others will post help for you soon.
As I said, I reviewed all pertinent topics and tried the suggested solution to no avail. Yes, that is the solution I tried. It does not work for me as I tried to explain so either it doesn’t work or I did something wrong or I didn’t do enough to get it going. Like I said, what did I do wrong or not do?
Did I leave something out as noted in my first request?
Thanks for any help it getting Spamihilator working with Avast!.
OE accounts
POP3: localhost
SMTP: yourSMTPServer
(spamihilator does not filter outbound mail… you’ll be the spammer ;D)
account name: yourPOPServer&yourUsername
OR
account name: yourPOPServer&yourUsername&110
Hi Tech. Your setup seems to work for me too. At least in an initial test with Spamihilator on I am able to send out a message via one of my accounts - a first since using Avast!. Now I will convert over all accounts and see if it is successful. Thanks much for the advice.
Well, I changed over all of my accounts to your suggested entries and all work fine. I don’t really see the difference from what had been suggested previously (in past topics) but it works! (The only difference seems to be the omission of changes to SMTP which should not effect incoming.)
Anyway, I just wanted to report back that your method works well for me. And to thank you and the whole Avast! forum for the fast and great response.
