More than a little irked...

Well, I just finished installing Avast free for a try out period to test before purchasing & deploying the paid version. After running the auto installer, which I thought would be safe being that I’d had no problems in the past, although it’s been a few years since running Avast. I am straight up po’d to find Google Spywa… I mean, Chrome on my machine. Worse, without even a prompt asking if I wanted this garbage, it just auto installed it w/o my consent.

In case it’s not obvious; I DON’T!!!

Just how much am I pi55ed off about it? To put it succinctly, I’m about to reinstall from a system image to ensure I’ve purged both Google & Avast products completely from my system because it’s faster than hunting down all of the reg entries manually. And, you have just lost a customer for life for the massive inconvenience your program has caused me. Seriously, F U for this!

Okay.
avast does not install anything unless the user consents to it.It is quite clear you need to uncheck a box and chrome will not be installed.

More overreaction. You do get the option for the Chrome install and honestly, Chrome is not that bad. It’s better than Firefox but that’s not saying much.

Your little image is disgusting and you’re acting like a child. ::slight_smile: ::slight_smile:

That is your opinion and you are quite welcome to it. A few MS in speed between the two is not much in today’s Technology.

Wrong. No box appeared, no consent was given. There was no option given to opt in, or out. Unlike most, I am very contentious about what, how, & the why’s about everything that gets installed on my machine. Not everyone on the net is out there to troll, you know? But, I suppose you were sitting here installing it on my system instead of me. O wait…

I suppose you’re not all that familiar with Google’s data mining nor their backdoor associations eh? Mayhap you should educate yourself before speaking of something of which you quite apparently know nothing. Comments like the overreaction one, are the type that I’d associate with the typical brain dead facebook user. I unlike many, care about my personal data, & don’t give it out lightly. As for browsers, I use a custom build of FF. Pale Moon, and no, Chrome’s not better than it especially with respect to user privacy, much less… security. NotScripts is not an acceptable substitute for NoScripts, need I mention Google removing Adblock + from the Chrome store?

See above for the rest of the response.

Your little image is disgusting and you're acting like a child. ::) ::)

Whatever. My pic is amusing & you need a drastic upgrade to your sense of humor. Don’t like it? Avert your eyes, otoh, I suppose a whiny comment is more adult like. o.0 Sorry for offending your delicate sensitivities. You might wish to avoid going out in public, if your that sensitive… For the record, I’m acting like an angry adult who is very likely older than you, and aggravated at having wasted time installing the program in question is more like it. I suppose you like reinstalling disk images and consuming writes on your expensive ssd’s for no real reason? No? Didn’t think so. rolls eyes

No worries, I’m done here.

Although the OP is being a bit of a jerk, his rant is not without some merit. Having the box checked already does seem like Chrome is being forced upon users to a degree. It should be unchecked at the onset and the user given the option to check it themselves if they want it installed. I’m trying to remember if it’s Java or Adobe Flash updates that tries to sneak in a free McAfee trial period during the update process, but it’s basically the same thing. If you’re not observant and don’t notice the box is already checked to install it, you end up with unwanted and useless crap on your computer.

If that’s the attitude the OP has in his posts, angry or not, then good riddance.

I know all about Google’s practices and frankly, I’m not paranoid enough to worry about it. Some of that stuff is necessary to maintain the free web that we all enjoy. Revenue from ads is vital to maintain websites. I won’t use things like NoScript or HIPS because they compromise convenience and usability too much. Having said that, my browser of choice is IE10 but I do have Comodo Dragon, a modified version of Chrome that removes a lot of the things you’re concerned with, installed as well.

I also do not consider the users of Facebook to be “brain dead”. If you want to hide behind walls of paranoia and limit your enjoyment of the full range of what the web offers, go ahead. I choose to see and experience it all. The pond scum malware producers will not take that away from me.
