this seems to be some sort of malware that replicates itself under various filenames. how can i get rid of it?

I ran Trend Micro’s free scan. It detected it and the variants as well. The problem I had was it replicated itself upon boot, adding a new name (always 8 characters). Did it remove the whole enchilada for you???
I found this. I am gonna try this at some point today when I have a block of time with no interuptions.
I saw a post where Avast got it, unfortunately I didn’t detect it on my machine. I just installed it last night is there something I am missing? Virus definitions updates?
update the program and the deffinition files. scan. take the worm name and do a search on F-Secure.com and download the removal tool
Hey man thanks!! I had just downloaded it the night before so had assumed it was uptodate and told me it was when I went to update. I went to a thorough scan and included ARCHIVE folders (Duh Chas! :
THEN IF FOUND IT. It still left some of the randomly generated files in Startup, Application Data Startup, MS Config so I blasted those out reran and then checked again , rebooted and IT NAILED IT!!
